  • Upgrading from 11.10- to 12.04 Hangs at "mysql: restarting..."

    I'm trying to upgrade from Ubuntu Server 11.10 to 12.04 using Update Manager. I figured out that I had to click the arrow next to 'Terminal' and select OK a couple times. Now it's supposed to be "Installing the upgrades" but it's frozen trying to restart mysql for the second time mysql: restarting.... Apache2, atd and cups were all restarted twice after "Restarting services possibly affected by the upgrade". It's been stuck here for nearly an hour. I read here about killing processes, but I can't get a terminal window to open. EDIT: I don't know if this matters but there are 6 occurrences in the Distrobution Upgrade window that say: debconf: unable to initialize frontend: Gnome debconf: (Unable to load Gtk -- is libgtk2-perl installed?) debconf: falling back to frontend: Dialog I should have left the server alone and never run apt-get install ubuntu-desktop yesterday.   • Where have the Direct3D 11 tutorials on MSDN have gone?

    I've had this tutorial bookmarked for ages. I've just decided to give DX11 a real go, so I've gone through that tutorial, but I can't find where the next one in the series is! There are no links from that page to either the next in the series, or back up to the table of contents that lists all of the tutorials. These are just companion tutorials to the samples that come with the SDK, but I find them very helpful. Searching MSDN from google and the MSDN Bing search box has turned up nothing, it's like they've removed all links to these tutorials, but the pages are still there if you have the URLs. Unfortunately, MSDN URLs are akin to youtube URLs, so I can't just guess the URL of the next tutorial. Anyone have any idea what happened to these tutorials, or how I can find the others?

    If you get "Receive Anonymous Level Security token" message in IE8 when trying to access Shared Services or Workspace URL.Workaround:a. Go to Start > Run and enter dcomcnfgb. Expand Component Services, Expand Computers and right click on My Computer and select Propertiesc. Click on the Default Properties tab.  Change the Default Authentication Level to Connect.  Click apply and then OK.d. Launch the IE browser again and you will be able to access the URL.

For that what'll be easy to do: 1) Formatting entire hard drive OR 2) Formatting only that partition on which I want to install Ubuntu? I should be sure that I can run MS Office Professional Plus 2007 on Ubuntu. I have ubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-i386.iso burned on a CD and have MS Office Prof. Plus 2007 in this form - http://i.imgur.com/qAhP8.jpg I also want to know when I update Ubuntu how much MB will it be?

  • Ubuntu 11.0 HDMI Video Card No 5.1 Audio

    I am using Ubuntu and XMBC on my HTPC and have chosen the Radeon HD5570 Video card which has an HDMI output. In the sound preferences there is no surround sound option for the video card just stereo and although I can get sound through it in XBMC, my receiver does not state Dolby Digital on movies that are in fact Dolby so its definitely not giving me the true sound it should. Does this card not support surround sound through HDMI and I somehow missed it? If that is the case does anyone have suggestion that has been tested and works? Id like to know its going to work before investing in yet another video card.

  • Package Version Numbers, why are they so important

    One of the design goals of IPS has been to allow people to easily move forward to a supported "Surface" of component. That is to say, when you  # pkg update your system, you get the latest set of components which all work together, based on the packages you already have installed. During development, this has meant simply you update to the latest "build" of the components. (During development, we build everything and publish everything every two weeks). Now we've released Solaris 11 using the IPS technologies, things are a bit more complicated. We need to be able to reflect all the types of Solaris release we are doing. For example Solaris Development builds, Solaris Update builds and "Support Repository Updates" (the replacement for patches) in the version scheme. So simply saying "151" as the build number isn't sufficient to articulate what you are running, or indeed what is available to update to In my previous blog post I talked about creating your own package, and gave an example FMRI of pkg://tools/[email protected],0.5.11-0.0.0 But it's probably more instructive to look at the FMRI of a Solaris package. The package "core-os" contains all the common utilities and daemons you need to use Solaris.  $ pkg info core-os Name: system/core-os Summary: Core Solaris Description: Operating system core utilities, daemons, and configuration files. These can be arbitrary length, just to allow you to group similar packages together. Now on the the interesting? bit, the versions, everything after the @ is part of the version. IPS will only upgrade to a "higher" version. It is necessarily so, to allow us to describe the hierachy of releases we do In this example we see the following 0.175: is known as the trunkid, and is incremented each build of a new release of Solaris.   • Linux, some packets are not being NAT

    Hi, I'm trying to NAT HTTP traffic, I'm new to this and facing some issues. What i'm trying to do is NAT client HTTP requests to a webserver. CLIENT - NAT BOX - WEBSERVER When the client open the IP of the NAT BOX, the request should be pass to the web server. But I'm getting "HTTP request sent, awaiting response..." and then wait serveral minutes before the request is done. Looking at the tcpdump output, it looks like the first Syn packet on (10:48:54) is being NAT but not the second, third, fourth... ACK or PSH packets, and wait until (10:52:04) it starts NAT again on the ACK packet. The iptables command I'm using is: iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp -i eth0 --dport 80 \ -j DNAT --to-destination WEBSERVER I'm wondering what could have caused this behavior?     I used to be able to see and manage my iPod with different softwares: Amarok, Rhythmbox, GTKPod. The device is a nano 1st generation 4gb. I say partially because I can transfer files to the iPod but can't remove or modify them. Also one transfer didn't finish and only 9 out of 16 songs were delivered to the device. All other softwares I tried (GTKPod, Amarok, Songbird) don't even detect it. What can I do to troubleshoot this? NOTE: just noticed that if I mount the device manually instead of letting nautilus automount it, I can see it again on GTKPod but still not on Banshee AND it's vanished from Rhythmbox...

I found formula's (both array as non-array) that handle this for a fixed range, but I want to have the results in another column per week number. The /etc/xinet.d/tftp configuration file is the following: service tftp { disable = no socket_type = dgram protocol = udp wait = yes user = root server = /usr/sbin/in.tftpd server_args = -s /tftpboot -vvv per_source = 11 cps = 100 2 flags = IPv4 } The selinux and firewall are disabled. The /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny files are empty.     I was running Ubuntu 10.04 and attempted to upgrade to 10.10. I have a really slow connection (DSL 128kbits/sec) and copying the upgrade files took about 26 hours. I of course let it run unattended. When I came back, I notice the following 3 dlgs: (1) "Could not install the upgrades The upgrade has aborted. Your system could be in an unusable state. A recovery will run now (dpkg -- configure -a)." (2) "gpk-update-icon Distribution upgrades available maverick 10.10 (stable) [more information] [Do no show this again] [Cancel] [Ok]" (3) "gpk-update-icon Security updates available The following important updates are available for your computer: libwebkit-1.0-2-dbg - Web content engine library for Gtk+ - Debugging symbols libcupsimage2 - Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - Raster image library ..." What is the best response to all of this? I went through something similar in an attempted network upgrade from 8.04 to 10.04 and had to reload the unbootable machine fresh from distribution media (all data was lost). I'd like to avoid that here. I have not yet responded to the dialogs, and want to make sure the system is still bootable and not lose my data this time.
